Frequently asked questions

  • Every session is completely one-on-one — just you and your therapist, every time. Your initial evaluation will last about 60–90 minutes, giving us plenty of time to dive into your story, assess how your body is moving, and start building a plan together that fits easily into your schedule and lifestyle. Follow-up visits are typically 45–60 minutes and tailored to your evolving goals and bodywork needs.

Each session might include a mix of hands-on manual therapy, dry needling, cupping, internal or external body work, movement-based assessment, and personalized education. You’ll also leave with a home program that actually fits your life — designed to support your progress between visits and beyond.

  • Not at all. While internal assessment and treatment can give us helpful information about your pelvic floor muscles, it's never required. We have plenty of effective tools, exercises, and movement-based strategies to support you without it.

If internal work is something you’re open to, we’ll always explain everything first and get your full, informed consent. Internal assessments (either vaginal or rectal) are done gently with a gloved, lubricated finger — we take things at your pace, prioritize your comfort, and talk you through the entire process. We're especially tuned in to your feedback about how things feel, since your perception gives us important insights about what's going on in the muscles, nerves, and soft tissues.

  • It truly depends on you—your goals, how your body responds to treatment, how often we’re meeting, and how consistent you’re able to be with your home exercise program (usually only 5-10 minutes per day of movements). Most folks tend to see meaningful progress within 6–10 sessions, but that can vary based on the complexity of symptoms and your individual lifestyle. My job is to work with you to create a plan that’s sustainable, effective, and aligned with what you want to get back to doing. We’ll keep checking in and adjusting along the way to make sure you feel supported and on track.

  • At Sonder, we are a cash-pay, out-of-network practice, so that we can provide the kind of care you actually deserve — personalized, unhurried, and focused on long-term results. This model allows us to spend more time with you (always one-on-one), tailor every session to your goals, and use the most effective treatment options that aren’t restricted by what’s “billable.”

We accept HSA/FSA payments and automatically provide superbills (invoices) if you’d like to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

If you are a Medicare beneficiary, we are not able to provide covered physical therapy services—but you’re absolutely welcome to work with us for Wellness Services, which can still support your goals in a proactive, movement-focused way.

  • In the state of Colorado, we are grateful to have Direct Access for physical therapy services! This means that you DO NOT need a referral to attend physical therapy. However, if you are submitting for insurance reimbursement, it can be helpful to have from your Primary Care Physician, OBGYN/Midwife, or Chiropractor send a referral.

  • Whatever you find comfortable to move around in or would usually exercise in; shoes do not typically matter as we are usually barefoot in session. If you are a runner, it is helpful to bring your running shoes with you from time to time!

  • If you are pregnant, please come in at the first sign of pain or dysfunction! If you are having no glaring issues but want to be proactive/preventative in your care for labor/delivery or postpartum healing, it is suggested to start around 25 wks gestation. This is to make sure we can attempt meaningful change in your pelvic floor for delivery and the postpartum initial healing stages.

If you are postpartum, we will not do any internal work until you receive clearance from your physician and/or your PP bleeding has stopped, however you can come back to PT for return to movement or other pains/concerns starting at 2 wks postpartum.

  • Yes, absolutely! There’s still so much we can do in your session that doesn’t involve internal pelvic floor work, if you'd prefer to skip that while menstruating. That said, if internal work is appropriate and you're comfortable moving forward, we’re totally at ease treating during your period — it’s a normal part of life, and you never need to apologize for it here!

  • We do all of our virtual appointments via video chat on our HIPAA compliant patient portal called PtEverywhere. All you have to do is login at the time of your appointment and answer the video chat call!

Virtual appointments are highly effective for anyone experiencing all the same pelvic floor complaints, but do not have access or time to see someone in person. We work through self-care management and movement/exercises, as well as any techniques you can do yourself to manage the pain or dysfunction.
