Understanding Pelvic Floor–Related Bowel Dysfunction

Bowel challenges can be uncomfortable, frustrating, and sometimes isolating—but they don’t have to be. At Sonder Pelvic Therapy & Wellness, we specialize in helping individuals manage constipation, straining, incomplete emptying, and other pelvic floor–related bowel issues. Our approach is rooted in whole-body assessment, movement-based strategies, and evidence-informed care designed to restore comfort, control, and confidence.

The pelvic floor muscles play a crucial role in bowel elimination and when dysfunctional, can lead to symptoms such as:

  • Constipation and/or straining

  • Incomplete bowel emptying

  • Abdominal discomfort or bloating

  • Hemorrhoids and/or anal fissures

  • Painful defecation

These symptoms are often tied to pelvic floor tension and/or poor pressure coordination. At Sonder, we look beyond the pelvis to understand how the entire system (core, diaphragm, and surrounding areas) influence bowel health.

Bowel Dysfunction can include straining, hemorrhoids, constipation and more.

Take the First Step.

If you’re ready to improve bowel function, reduce strain, and restore comfort, whether you are in Denver or want to work together virtually, Sonder is here for you!
